One Pedestrian Injured, Another Killed On Peach Street in Millcreek
Two men were walking north on Peach Street in Millcreek Township last Saturday night when they were struck by a car from behind. Initial reports indicate that the car was also traveling north, struck the two men, then veered off the roadway and dropped into Walnut Creek just south of the bridge near Kuntz Road. Police are still investigating the accident and returned to the scene Monday, but have not yet filed any charges against the driver.
Millcreek Resident Dies After Being Struck By Car
Both men and the driver of the car were taken to UPMC Hamot for medical treatment where one of the pedestrians died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident. The County Coroner ruled the death as accidental, and stated that the man died from multiple sever blunt-force trauma.
Not The First Time a Pedestrian Has Died Here
Unfortunately, this is not the first time a pedestrian has been struck by a car in this area and died from their injuries. In 2013, a man who was walking home from the grocery store was struck and killed very near the same location. The driver of the car that struck him was charged with DUI and sentenced to serve 3-8 years in jail.
No Sidewalks a Safety Concern
Given that two people have died as a result of a car versus pedestrian accident in the area already, it is no surprise that township supervisors are willing to hear pleas for adding sidewalks to a stretch of road between Kuntz Road and the Wendy’s restaurant. Township officials have not begun talks about these sidewalks yet, but PennDOT officials have stated that they are willing to listen to concerns in order to facilitate a new project.
